European Day of Languages

The European Day of Languages was celebrated for the first time in 2001, whithin the European Year of Languages.
The European Year of the Languages managed to make millions of persons participate in 45 countries in activities aiming at celebrating the linguistic variety and the advantages brought by the capacity to speak about another language.

At the end of the year, the Committee of the Ministers of the Council of Europe decided to establish an European Day of the languages celebrated every year on September 26th.
