Plenary session in the European Parliament in Strasbourg
The plenary
session of the European Parliament is where the Parliament formally sits to
vote on EU legislation and adopt its position on political issues. The plenary
sessions take place 12 times a year in Strasbourg
and there are also 6 mini-plenary sessions held in Brussels.
In order to
attend a plenary sitting of the European Parliament
* come to the visitors' entrance during the sitting;
* for registration purposes, please bring your passport, identity card or driving
licence with you.
A limited number of places is available for attending a parliamentary sitting
for one hour.
Visitors must be at least 14 years old.
Visits for individuals in Strasbourg
are not organised outside the part-sessions.
During part-sessions
Information visits are organised for groups composed of a minimum of 20 people
and a maximum of 45. Exceptionally, larger groups can be accepted on request.
Visits last between two and three hours and include a general introduction by
an EP official to the role and work of the European Parliament. This could be
followed by a discussion with an MEP, if parliamentary business allows, and
observation of MEPs' debates 'live' from the visitors' gallery.
As we receive a very large number of requests for visits, we recommend that you
apply two to three months in advance.
To find out more information, please consult the webpage of
The Parliament.
