- WINSTON CHURCHILL (1876-1965)
A British politician, Winston Churchill was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
between 1940 and 1945 and from 1951 to 1955. Leader of the Conservative opposition
in 1945, Churchill called for a policy favourable to the European Union. In a
speech in Zurich
in September 1946, he did not hesitate to talk about the “future United States
of Europe.” He was part of the first Assembly of the Council of Europe.
