      Denmark's National Holiday

    • Amongst the European revolutions that began in 1848, King Frederick VII accepted the principle of a constiutional monarchy in 1849. The first Danish liberal Constitution was signed on 5 June, 1849 and became Constitution Day (Grundlovsdag). Unlike most countries Constitution Day is marked by political meetings rather than any sort of military ceremony.

      Sweden National Day

    • Since 1983, the national day is fixed on June 6th. This date celebrates two events: the anniversary of Gustav Vasa's proclamation king of Sweden on June 6th, 1523 (who ended the Danish domination in Sweden) and the adoption of the new constitution on June 6th 1809. This new constitution is symbol of a reaffirmation of the Swedish civic values of freedom and right(law): as the freedom of religion, press and expression.

    • The UN is celebrating the World Oceans Day 2017 with a ceremony where the winners of the photo contest organized around the topic will receive a prize.

      Portugal National Day

    • Called Camões Day, June 10 celebrates the anniversary of the death of the poet Luis Vaz de Camões (1525-1580), considered as the greatest writer of Portuguese literature.
      Famous for his poems of pastoral and medieval tradition, Luis Vaz de Camões is also well-known for his work Os Lusiadas, an epic poem written in 1556, celebrating the birth and destiny of the nation and of the Portuguese Empire - like the Iliad or the Odyssey.

      Romania National Day

    • Greater Romania emerged on December 1st, 1918 with the union of various regions.
      Because of the decline of Russia and Turkey due to the effects of the World War I and because of the dissension in the Austria-Hungarian Empire, the combining regions of Transylvania, Bessarabie and Bucovine created Greater Romania.

      And since the realization of Greater Romania, the 1st December is a day of commemoration and the romanian National Day.

      International Volunteer Day

    • The International Volunteer Day was adopted by the General Assembly of the UN in 1985. Since then, it has had a strategic value: most of the countries have orientated the volunteering actions towards the achievement of the Millenium Development Goals, a set of objectives and headlines to defeat hunger, illness, illiteracy, the deterioration of the environment and violence against women.
