Council of Europe’s new building voted World’s Best Business Centre

tuesday 18 march 2008

The new building of the Council of Europe has been awarded Best Office Building (Mipim Award) by a panel of professionals at the property industry's Annual Convention in Cannes on 13 March 2008. The Architects responsible for the building are Art + Build (Brussels), who worked in partnership with Denu + Paradon (Strasbourg).
The international market for real estate professionals MIPIM serves as a show-case for hundreds of new real estate development projects from over 80 countries.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Council of Europe’s membership has soared from 23 to 47. In order to comply this evolution, a new building has been constructed in Strasbourg.
With its 25.000 m2, it is the fruit of an international competition of 2002 in which not less than seventy candidates had taken part. There is an office space of 14.000 m2 and a collectif space (meeting rooms) of 8.500 m2 surmounted by two ventilation chimneys. The building has a mixed ventilation system (natural ventilation and double-flow ventilation), taking into account the temperate continental climate in Strasbourg.
The Council of Europe had wished to underline the environmental aspect and had looked out for environment adaption, but also energy saving.
A green and sustainable aspect which has apparently been determining for the Mipim Award

This buildung will be inaugurated on Tuesday, 17 April 2008 by Bernard Kouchner, France’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
